Im Bigger Than My Business Card
Im Bigger Than My Business Card I think everyone should have a business card. And of course, your business card should communicate what it needs to concisely and effectively. But a business card can also be a teaser. After all, Im a lot more interesting than the few square inches, and perhaps 5 clever words. I want YOU to get to know ME, and what you see on my business card is an early-stage introduction. What if a business card could convey more? It cant, but it can take you to the next stage what about the Virtual Business Card? Its nothing more than a website to let others learn more about you. Check out what Chris (Christopher) Penn is doing. I love it and Ill pick it apart here: 1. First thing that jumps out at me is the mug shot that Chris put up. Dont you hate getting dozens of business cards and then trying to remember WHO is WHO?? 2. The introductory paragraph explains what this page is all about, puts in the personality, and lets you know that there is a lot more interesting about Chris than you got on his business card. 3. The next section has titles with LINKS Chris makes it uber-easy to learn about him because you just have to click to learn more. 4. The next section has a bunch of contact options. I dont know how accessible Chris really is, but at least he feels accessible. 5. The last section has all the links that he thinks is important so you can learn about what he does. Its a lot so Im glad that he didnt put any descriptions or anything it would make this page, imho, a little too busy. One reasons I love this is because he takes me exactly where he wants me to go, instead of leaving it up to Google to define his personal brand smart, eh? Excellent Chris thanks for the example! (thanks to Dan Johnson for pointing me to this) Want more on business cards? Follow up Emails to Make Recruiters Smile
Follow up Emails to Make Recruiters Smile Your recruiter helped you get an interview. And you are convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that you had the best interview ever. Then, you met with a recruiter who showed lots of interest in staying connected and works with the all the great companies you want to be a part of. And these recruiters all said to you, âKeep in touchâ.But then a couple of weeks pass and you havenât heard a thing and you havenât written a thing. You want to write the recruiter. But you also want to leave these recruiters smiling when they read your email. So, here are some great templates to help you put a smile on a recruiterâs face when you are nervous you may come across as annoying.1. Follow up With ReferralsOne of the best ways to make a recruiter smile is to write them with referrals or offer to find referrals for any job they are working on. If you can accelerate their hiring process you will score big with them. Here is an example:âDear insert friendâs name,Earlier this month, we had spoken after meeting to discuss [this job]. I was contacting you to see if you had an update or feedback on my interview with [company].In the meantime, I would happily refer anyone to you. Please let me know. As a job seeker, I know others in my network looking for new work. Maybe I can refer them to you?It would be my pleasure to assist.Best wishes,[name]âShort and simple. But remember: This type of follow up email should be saved for recruiters you really have a strong desire to work with. This is not the type of email you send to all recruiters because, if you do, you will find yourself making promises to people you cannot keep. And that never goes over well with anyone. You may also end up doing lots of work for people you hardly know.2. Interview Follow up EmailsWhen you follow up with an email after an interview, you may want to offer to connect on other channels such as LinkedIn. You also want to avoid sounding desperate, nervous, needy, or negative. Sure, you had an inter view and heard nothing. But there is no reason to assume the worst. Instead, try an email like this:âDear insert recruiter name,I recently interviewed for a job opening at insert company name for the position of insert position name thanks to your recruiting efforts. The position fit perfectly with my experience in insert experience, insert experience and insert experience.I was writing to see if you had an update and also to invite you to connect with me on LinkedIn. You can learn more about me here on my LinkedIn Profile insert LinkedIn Profile url.I recently followed your posts insert social media site and appreciate what you share. You offer valuable resources for job seekers and I like the way you interact with others. If you have time, Iâd love to set up a call and talk. I have some availability on insert days next week from insert time span with time zone. You can email me at insert your email address or by phone at insert phone number. I look forward to speaking again soo n.Sincerely, insert your nameâGive these emails a try the next time you find yourself in similar situations. Job seeking is not easy and you will come across many people and personalities. The emails above will help you network with those recruiters you want to be working with all the time.

Can You Go Home Again - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Can You Go Home Again - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career An interesting effect of the changing business landscape has been a change in the attitude toward departed employees. In the past, many companies treated those whoâd left (whether voluntarily or involuntarily) as pariahs, traitors, or losers. Today, theyâre generally considered a pool of potentially desirable rehires. After all, if you leave Company A for a job at Company B, you will still retain useful knowledge of how Company A operates. In addition, you will also develop valuable new insights into the strengths and weaknesses of a competing firm. Thus Company A will probably be happy to consider hiring you back. Rather than a âtraitor,â youâre more likely to be called âa returning alumnus.â

Tips For Getting The Best Resumes Books
Tips For Getting The Best Resumes BooksResumes books are everywhere, in the bookstore and even online. If you are like most, you will find that these products are a bit confusing and outdated. The focus has shifted to get the job, not write a great resume. In this article we will discuss the importance of resumes and how to avoid the pitfalls that many people fall into when it comes to writing them.Writing a great resume is not a task for the inexperienced writer. The goal is to make the resume relevant to the job posting and easy to read. You should create a resume that not only looks professional, but that stands out from the rest. This can be done through colors, formatting, graphics, and other features. To start with, look at your current resume and determine what steps you want to improve upon. In many cases, just making the content flow better will make your resume stand out from the crowd. When searching for resumes books, keep in mind that the majority of jobs are posted on jo b postings or classified ads. This is where your resume will shine. Make sure you understand how to write a compelling resume and make it easy to read. You can get all of the resume help you need by looking at specific skill sets that make your resume stand out. Some examples of these include spelling, grammar, formatting, and format. Keep in mind that the most important part of any resume is how well it flows, so pay attention to how this is done. When looking for resumes books, you will find that you can buy them in any bookstore or library. You may also find that you can buy them online. This can make the decision a little harder because of the choices available to you.The best way to choose resumes books is to do some research online. Business Ideas For When You Need A Lightbulb Moment - CareerAlley
Business Ideas For When You Need A Lightbulb Moment - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. If youve ever had to work under a boss that makes your life a nightmare, you might have been tempted to quit, start your own business, become your own boss. Unfortunately, there are several problems with this plan, if you can even call it that at this point. You might not have any money saved, any business knowledge, or even an idea for your business. However, hopefully, this will inspire you a little, so that you at least have some idea of the type of business you want to own. Cleaning Business Owning a cleaning business can lead you in many directions. You might want to clean homes, in which case, you are likely to be cleaning during the day, while the occupants are at work and school. On the other hand, you might want to work nights instead, while your other half is at home and can take care of the children. In this case, office blocks and restaurants could be a good source of work for you. Makeup Distributor There are plenty of makeup companies, such as Lipsense, which allow you to sell their products for a small fee and keep any profit. You may even be able to earn commissions on products sold by people that sign up because of you. If you didnt want to quit your job right away, you could fit this business around your current job, and work as much or as little as you want. Of course, if you become a lipsense distributor, you wont earn massive amounts of money unless you put in a decent amount of time and hard work. Pet Sitter Your work as a pet sitter can come in many forms, and, luckily, it will require very little money to get you started, so most of the money you earn will be pure profit. You can look after anything from dogs, to hamsters, to tortoises, so it wont ever be boring. Dogs can be a particularly big earner, especially if you live in a big city; Owners may have jobs that mean that they dont have enough time to walk, play with, and feed their four-legged friends, so are much more likely to hire a dog sitter to do the work for them. Wedding Planner If youre stuck for a business idea, what better one than helping someone organize their big day. There is a lot that goes into planning a wedding, which is why a lot of people need a little help. Before you even think about how to make this into a flourishing business, you need to ask yourself if you have everything it takes to be a wedding planner. You need to be good at planning (obviously), budgeting, problems solving, time management, listening, and negotiating. If you dont have all of these skills and more, no wedding planning certification is going to help you. While this definitely isnt a list of every business idea on the planet, it is varied, and will hopefully give you some inspiration when you decide the sort of business you want to run. We are always eager to hear from our readers. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or suggestions regarding CareerAlley content. Good luck in your search,Joey Google+
